If your parents are divorced, please attach a copy of page 1 and 2 of each parent's tax return.
If you were claimed by your parent(s) as a dependent they must refile their taxes using the 1040X form to remove you as a dependent. Please attach a copy of page 1 and 2 of your parents Federal 1040 and 1040X form.
If you are over 21 and filed Missouri income taxes, please attach a copy of page 1 and 2 of the current year’s Federal 1040 and all pages of your Missouri state tax form.

Processing Fee (You will receive an email with a link to pay the $250 nonrefundable residency petition processing fee).

I hereby authorize the University to charge a $250 nonrefundable residency petition processing fee. This fee covers the cost of processing my residency petition and supporting documents submitted. If my petition is not completed or approved in the current semester, I understand I will need to reapply in a subsequent semester and pay another processing fee.

Checklist

When you submit this form you will be directed to your status page and you will have the opportunity to upload these documents. These are the materials you will need to gather for submission on your status page.

Permanent Missouri driver’s license or Missouri state ID card. A temporary copy will not be accepted.
Missouri vehicle registration if you are the only owner of your vehicle.
Missouri voter registration.
Permanent resident card if you are a permanent resident.
Proof of visa status if you are on a visa.
Lease(s) for your 12-month qualifying period and including the semester for which you are petitioning. Do not exceed 14 days out of Missouri during this time period. Examples include a lease(s) or sublease(s) with your name on it. If you lived with a family member or a friend, submit a notarized letter and either their lease, deed, or homeowner’s insurance policy for that time period.
Official bank and/or credit card statements showing regular transactions in Missouri. Please mark out account and routing numbers. Official bank statements will include the name of the bank, the student’s name, the transaction dates (not the post dates), and the location of the transactions. The student must be the ONLY person using the account. Regular transactions are defined as 2-3 transactions per week on different days of the week.
Official payroll records/paystubs and work schedules for each pay period showing at least $3,000 of Missouri taxable income.
- Income must be earned in Missouri during the 12-month qualifying period.
- Students may NOT work for or with a relative, for a family member or family business, or online.
- All payroll records/paystubs for your 12-month qualifying period.
- Direct deposit entries on the bank statement may not be used in place of payroll records.
- Paystubs must show the work location on the paystubs.
Page 1 and 2 of the current year’s Federal 1040 income tax form showing your dependency status.
- If you were under 21 during any part of the qualifying 12 months, a copy of page 1 and 2 of your parent’s most recent Federal 1040 income tax form showing you were NOT claimed as a dependent. If your parents are divorced, please submit a copy of page 1 and 2 of the tax return for each parent.
- If you were 21 or older for the entire qualifying 12 months, a copy of page 1 and 2 of your Federal tax form and all pages of your Missouri 1040 income tax form.
Property tax receipt if you paid property taxes in Missouri.
If military, copy of your orders.
If receiving financial aid, scholarships, or student loans, speak with the Student Financial Services Office to know how these will be affected by a change in residency status.
$250 non-refundable processing fee.

Please ensure you upload all the documents required for your petition. Incomplete petitions cannot be evaluated which will cause a delay in determining your residency status. After the initial review, additional documents may be requested and required. If you have previously submitted a petition and are now petitioning for a different semester, you must submit all your documents again.
