The Kummer I&E Doctoral Fellows nomination must include a declaration of full financial support through GA, GRA and/or GTA (12 months, .5 FTE, at a level in accordance with S&T GTA/GRA policies) for the nominated student in the event the student is not chosen for the Kummer I&E Doctoral Fellowship Program.

Direct or primary research expenditures, including equipment usage charges, are meant to be paid for by the advisor’s research funds, either external grants or internal research accounts.

Department Chairs and Associate deans of research will be made aware of the nominations you are making to ensure funding may be available for this nominated student. Inaccurate reflections of financial support may result in repercussions for your eligibility to nominate Kummer I&E Fellows in the future.

Faculty are not able to nominate more than 2 Kummer I&E Doctoral Fellows per award cycle.

Faculty are not permitted to advise more than 2 Kummer I&E Doctoral Fellows at any given time.

In order to increase the number of I&E Fellowships that S&T can offer, and thus increase S&T’s ability to recruit highly-qualified PhD students, the Kummer Institute is now offering a co-funding opportunity in which faculty advisors can voluntarily commit to partial funding of a new I&E Fellow’s support, with the incentive for the faculty advisor being improved odds of the nominated student being awarded an I&E Fellowship. The attached document describes the program in more detail. Some important notes:

During the years in which an I&E Fellow is co-funded by the advisor, the advisor will fund

• ½ of a 50% FTE Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) that totals $27,594.48 annually

• ½ the cost of up to 21 credits + fees for MO resident tuition (regardless of the student’s residency status)

• Direct Research Expenses for the I&E Fellow
